Polruan is an ancient mariner and shipbuilding community. Clinging to the hillside, and surrounded on three sides by water, the village is a maze of narrow alleys and flights of steps winding between the cottages, it is much loved as a community, a haven for yachts and also a tranquil holiday destination.

Polruan village

Polruan is an ancient fishing village and where most of the fishing boat building took place (and today there is still an active boat yard, building and repairing boats of all types).
It is said that St Ruan was the first to occupy the top of Polruan Hill, which is where St Saviours ruins stand today. Polruan is part of the parish of Lanteglos-by-Fowey and many of the residence are artists and writers who are attracted to the quiet nature of the village. Polruan Quay Beach and Back Beach are sandy beaches located either side of the quay. The village has excellent amenities which includes two pubs, a convenience store, cafe, bakery and other local stores.
